Patent Search Help
Here you can perform advanced searches of the USPTO's database
using a simple form. Achieve the specificity of Boolean
searching without using a complex syntax. Enter search
terms box corresponding to fields you want to search.
Acceptable formats include:

Single words,
e.g. lasers
-
Phrases in double
quotes, e.g. "laser angioplasty"
-
Boolean phrases,
e.g. laser or ophthalmoscope
Acceptable
Boolean terms are:
-
and - laser and
fiber will retrieve only fields containing both
the word "laser" and also the word "fiber"
-
or - the phrase
"laser or fiber" will find patents that contain
either "laser", "fiber" or both.
-
not - "laser
not fiber" will find all patents that include "laser"
in the field you specify, but then it will exclude all
patents where "fiber" is in the searched field.
-
andnot - this
term is interchangeable with "not".
Wild card searching is permitted:
- use "*" for multiple letters, and "?"
for 0-1 letters.
-
"electron*"
finds electron, electrons, electronic, electronics, .
. .; but "electron?" finds only electron and
electrons (omit the double quotes from your entry.)

wild cards inside
double quotes are not acceptable.
Notes:

You can copy
the results of the search result directly into PatPDF.

Capitalization
is ignored.

In the examples
provided for each searchable term, pay attention to which
examples include double quotes, and which don't.
